Cry Me A River Knowing Your NewbornĘs Cries
Cry me a River: Knowing your Newborn's Cries
Do all babies' cries sound the same? Many people would answer that they do, but this is simply a common myth. In fact, your baby is going to have several different ways of crying and the sooner you know this, the sooner you can begin to recognize these cries.
There are several different types of cries that your baby is going to develop, and if you can learn to recognize these, you are going to be better able to help him or her communicate what is needed.
One of the most important cries that your newborn will make is when he or she is hungry. This is probably going to be very piercing, because many times with an infant, they get very hungry very suddenly, and they have no other way to communicate this. Once you have learned to recognize that cry, you are going to be able to tell when they need to eat, and you are going to be able to feed them as soon as they begin crying.
There will also be a cry that your baby will make when they need to be changed. This is usually more of a sobbing, and is a little bit more sad and whiney, because they have been dealing with being wet or dirty for some time and are probably getting sick and tired of it, so they will begin to cry.
There are other cries as well. When your baby is lonely or bored, she is going to have a cry that is very plaintive, and when she has been startled or scared, she will have a very loud cry that you will find difficult to ignore.
Once you have become comfortable with the different types of cries that your baby is going to be making, you are going to find that you are better able to respond to him or her. This is something that is very important when it comes to parents and babies, because a baby is going to be less likely to carry on with crying when they know they are going to have their problem solved. Crying themselves to sleep is an option that some people choose to do, but it is often more detrimental to the baby than simply picking them up and seeing what is wrong. Most children, especially newborns, do not cry for no reason, and if you allow your newborn to cry themselves to sleep, they will quickly learn that you aren't going to solve their problems, and this is going to lead to issues dealing with abandonment. When your baby cries, attend to him or her, and fix whatever is wrong.
